Let’s Take a Break

Let’s face it – anyone that has been on vacation to Disneyland has at some point gotten worn out and needed to take a pause. Maybe it’s time for a snack or meal, maybe a trip back to the hotel to rest or take a swim or nap. Some, however, want to maximum their time at the park and not leave the property to reset – so let’s take a look at some popular, and lesser-known places to cool down and relax.

The first stop is ideal for families with young children, the Baby Care Center is an ideal rest stop. Located off Main Street USA near the Plaza Inn, this air conditioned respite offers changing rooms and feeding stations for diapered visitors. Also available, pacifiers and baby bottles.

Traveling with no so younglings? There’s still plenty of options to cool down for a few minutes. Perhaps a cruise is what you’re thinking? Fantasyland’s It’s a Small World is a very viable option, if you don’t mind having said song stuck in your head the rest of the day. Not interested in an earworm? Head over to New Orleans Square and set sail on Pirates of the Caribbean. Wait…that also comes with a different type of earworm. Maybe an indoor cruise isn’t the best way to cool down after all – but it still beats a midday cruise on the Sailing Ship Columbia. Just trust me on this one…

Heading back to Main Street USA, a pause in the Opera House to take in a showing of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln gives a wonderful chance to take in some history and cool down. Along with 1963 New York World’s Fair exhibit, the Opera House also contains different Disney related exhibits in the lobby that guests can take in while waiting for Great Moments to begin, thus an extra chance to cool down.

For those looking to cool down with a snack, drink, or meal instead, there are plenty of options – indoors and out. Critter Country gives the offerings from Hungry Bear Restaurant – a quick service meal option with outdoor seating along the banks of Rivers of America. Here is a personal favorite, sitting on the lower level, feeding the ducks in the river while watching the Mark Twain Riverboat paddle by, along with the aforementioned Sailing Ship Columbia and also the Davy Crockett Canoes – certainly not an ideal way to cool down.

Not ready for a meal? Head back to Main Street, buy a popcorn or churro at the Hub and head to the China Closet. If you’re fortunate, you’ll be able to grab one of the chairs on the front porch and relax while people watching the comings and goings on the street. After a break and a snack, you should be good to go again.

Perhaps winding down before calling it a day is what you’re more in the mood for. This gives the opportunity to visit the Grand Californian Hotel and drop in to the Hearthstone Lounge. A glass of wine, or a handcrafted cocktail is a perfect nightcap to a day at the Happiest Place on Earth.

There are two more places that one could visit to cool down for a bit. The first is also on Main Street USA – the First Aid center. I hope you never need to visit. The second – Disneyland Jail. Don’t be that person. Just don’t.
